After being held to a 0-0 home draw by Didcot Town at The Meadow on Bank Holiday Monday, Aylesbury United took their unbeaten league start to the season to 4 games with a dominant 4-1 away win over Daventry Town in their BetVictor Southern :League Division 1 Central clash at Elderstubbs on Saturday.

Aylesbury's draw with Didcot and results elsewhere had left them in 7th place in the table, level on both points and goal difference with 6th placed Corby Town but behind on goals scored.

Meanwhile, Daventry had gone into the game on the back of a 4-1 away defeat by Coleshill Town on Bank Holiday Monday which had followed wins in their opening 2 league games and had left them in 5th place in the table, level on points with 4th placed Halesowen Town but with an inferior goal difference.

The first opportunity came Aylesbury's way deep into the 7th minute when a mistake by Daventry defender Dean Lukeman at the halfway line on the hosts' left saw the ball run to Melvy N'Somi, who made a diagonal run infield before slipping a low forward through ball to his right to Ken Feyi inside the box. However, the ball ran through to the advancing Daventry keeper Iustin Cerga.

The next chance came United's way in the 13th minute when Mark Riddick won a tackle with Taylor Orosz at the halfway line on The Ducks' right and ran forward before eventually sending a through ball to Feyi inside the right of the box. However, as Cerga came out to narrow the angle, Feyi's attempted right foot shot went out for a goal kick.

The Ducks went close again in the 22nd minute when Jack Wood's low diagonal ball infield from the right 6 yards inside the Town half found Ollie Hogg whose first time lay off down the right found N'Somi, who sidestepped Lukeman and ran a few paces before sending a long ball to the far post where Feyi sent his attempted header from 10 yards not far wide of Cerga's right hand post.

United continued to dominate and another chance came their way in the 24th minute when Sonny French's low through ball on the left of middle found Hogg, who took a touch before having his right foot shot from 20 yards well beaten out by Cerga.

Then at the other end just 21 seconds later (still in the 24th minute), Daventry went close when Adam Creaney's long ball over the top found Taylor Orosz, who ran down the right and beat Bewley on his way into the box before having his right footed angled cross-cum-shot from 12 yards tipped on the bar by United keeper Jack Hopwood.

Then in the 25th minute, Riddick's low through ball on the right found N'Somi who ran on and into the box before slipping the ball inside to Feyi, who was brought down by the advancing Cerga. Referee Luis Martin said penalty and after the fuss had died down, Feyi stepped up to calmly fire the resulting spot kick past Cerga into his bottom right hand corner for his 3rd competitive goal of the season. 1-0 Aylesbury

The Ducks went close to doubling their lead deep into the 35th minute when Bewley's free kick from the left to the far right of the box was headed down by Riddick to Wood, whose first time right foot shot from 10 yards was blocked with his legs to his right by Cerga before the ball was cleared.

It was 2-0 in the 37th minute when Riddick's low ball from middle to left found Seaton, who took a touch before pulling the ball back across the box to French fired his right foot shot from 8 yards into the centre of the net. 2-0 Aylesbury

The last happening of note in the first half came in the 42nd minute when Daventry's former Ducks midfielder Olllie Stanbridge was show a yellow card for a bad tackle on Feyi.

The first chance of the second half came Aylesbury's way in the 48th minute when Wood ran forward from the centre circle through the right of middle before eventually having his low left foot shot from 20 yards parried to his left by Cerga.

Daventry pulled a goal back in the 53rd minute when Lukeman's low diagonal ball from the left of middle found Taylor Orosz on the left who took a touch before crossing for Lukeman, who took a touch and turned before sending his slightly mis-hit low left foot angled shot 8 yards into Hopwood's left hand corner to give the hosts a possible lifeline. 1-2

United went close to adding to their lead in the 56th minute when French's low through ball on the right of middle found N'Somi who held it up before passing to his left to French, who made space for himself before having his right foot shot from 18 yards superbly parried to his left by Cerga before the keeper recovered to clear.

Daventry made their first substitution just into the 58th minute when Phil Cassidy came on to replace Stanbridge.

The Ducks thought they had scored in the 60th minute when Hogg's free kick from the left to the far post found Riddick who fired his right foot shot from 6 yards into Cerga's right hand corner but the offside flag went up and the goal was disallowed.

Daventry went close a minute later when Cassidy's right foot shot from 18 yards took a nick off a Ducks defender on its way only just past Hopwood's right post for a corner.

United made their first change in the 63rd minute when loan signing from Hemel Hempstead Sydney Ibie came on to replace N'Somi for his debut.

The visitors went close in the 71st minute when a move down the right saw the ball eventually find Feyi who showed some good footwork before having his low right foot shot held by Cerga.

The next chance came Aylesbury's way just into the 75th minute when Hogg's low through ball on the left found Ibie who beat Ross Harris and eventually cutting in and seeing his right foot shot from 14 yards hit the outside of Cerga's right hand post and go for a goal kick.

Daventry made their second change 25 seconds later when Sam Jackson came on to replace Jordan Orosz before United made their second change in the 77th minute when Harry Jones came on to replace Seaton.

Then in the 80th minute, Harris made a bad tackle on Ibie and with Harris already having been shown a yellow card in the 35th minute, referee Martin showed him a second yellow card and sent him off to leave the hosts to battle on with 10 men for the remainder of the game.

Aylesbury went close in the 82nd minute when Hopwood's goal kick eventually found Hogg on the right who took a touch and ran forward before sending a through ball to Jones, who made a diagonal run forward before having his left foot shot from 18 yards parried to his right by Cerga.

Daventry made their final change just into the 85th minute when Nathaniel Liburd came on to replace Tom McGowan.

A chance came the hosts' way in the 86th minute when Taylor Orosz fired his low left foot shot from 25 yards wide of Hopwood's left hand post.

Then in the 88th minute, it was 3-1 when Hogg send his right foot free kick from 25 yards under Cerga's hands into his left hand corner. 3-1 Aylesbury

Then just into the 2nd minute of added time at the end, it was 4-1 when Ibie squared to his left to Feyi who took a touch before sending a through ball to his right to Ibie, who ran on and into the box before sending his low right foot shot from 10 yards into Cerga's left hand corner for a classy finish. 4-1 Aylesbury

The final blast of referee Martin's whistle after 3 minutes 34 seconds of added time brought the game to an end and confirmed United's win to take their unbeaten start to the season to 4 games in all competitions.

This win plus results elsewhere leaves Ben Williams' side in 4th place, level on points with 5th placed Corby Town but ahead of the Northamptonshire side on goal difference.

The Ducks are next in action on Wednesday 4th September when they face a big home game with fellow unbeaten side Berkhamsted, who are top of the table level on points with 2nd placed Welwyn Garden City but ahead on goal difference.
