After having their 2 match winning run ended by a 1-1 home league draw with Barton Rovers 48 hours earlier, the second half of Aylesbury United's August Bank Holiday weekend double header saw them get back to winning ways and earn local bragging rights with a 3-1 away win over local rivals Thame United in their Pitching In Southern League Division 1 Central local derby at the ASM Stadium, Thame on Bank Holiday Monday.

Aylesbury went into the game in 11th place in the table as the second of 4 teams level on 4 points, with only St Neots Town of the quartet ahead of Ben Williams' side on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Thame went into the game on the back of a 0-4 away league defeat by Ware on the Saturday, which had left them in 3rd from bottom place, as the 3rd of 4 teams level on just a single point and with only 19th placed Wantage Town and bottom side Kidlington below them in the table.

Indeed, it was the hosts who shocked Aylesbury by taking the lead in just the 3rd minute when a long ball over the top on the right from 10 yards inside the Thame half found Ryan Blake, who ran between Ducks defenders Anthony Ball and Jack Wood on his way into the right of the box before firing his low right foot angled shot from 12 yards into Ducks keeper Archie Davis' right hand corner. 1-0 Thame

Aylesbury went close in the 6th minute when Ollie Hogg's low diagonal ball from middle to left found the on-running Max Hercules, who took a touch to control 35 yards out and cut inside Brodie Gray before firing his right foot shot from 25 yards not too far over the bar to Thame keeper Craig Hill's left.

Then deep into the 7th minute, The Ducks equalised when Ball's long diagonal aerial ball from the halfway line on the left was punched out by Hill to Jamie Jellis, who fired his first time right foot volley from 25 yards into Hill's left hand corner for a thunderous strike. 1-1

Thame went close to regaining the lead in the 14th minute when Blake's low diagonal ball from middle to right found Greg Hackett, who took a touch to control before having his powerful right foot shot from 12 yards tipped past his left hand post by Davis for a very good save.

A chance came Aylesbury's way deep into the 33rd minute when Hercules ran down the left before being brought down just outside the left hand corner of the box and from the resulting free kick from 20 yards, Hercules' right foot kick was held under the bar at his right hand post by Hill.

A chance came Thame's way in the 35th minute when Blake cut down the right and into the box before being denied by a great saving tackle by Liam McRohan for a corner.

A good chance came the hosts' way right at the end of the 40th minute when Hackett's long low diagonal ball down the right from 45 yards out found Blake, who cut in before having his right foot shot from 15 yards parried to his right by Davis.

Half-time: Thame 1-1 Aylesbury

The first chance of the second half came Thame's way right at the start of the 48th minute when Lynton Goss' corner from the left into the middle found Blake, who sent his header from 15 yards well over the bar.

Then at the other end just before the end of the 51st minute, Wood's long aerial diagonal ball from inside the centre circle found Hercules level with the 18 yard line on the left. He took a touch to control and cut in towards the box before being blocked by former Duck Callum Mapley for a corner.

From the resulting flag kick on the left (now into the 52nd minute), Hercules' short corner from the left found Sonny French, whose low diagonal lay-back found Hogg 25 yards out. He took a touch to control and ran forward before firing his right foot shot from 25 yards well wide of Hill's left hand post.

A chance came Aylesbury's way just into the 56th minute when Jellis' attempted cross from the right was intercepted by Hogg whose driven ball across the box was diverted out by Mapley for a corner, with Wood just behind waiting him to tap home.

Thame went close right at the end of the 59th minute when a long ball over the top on the right went over Wood to find Blake, who ran on and into the box before having his right foot shot from 8 yards blocked by Ball. The ball rebounded back to Blake whose right foot shot from a tight angle from 8 yards hit the bar before being cleared by Harry Jones.

Thame made their first change right at the end of the 62nd minute when Harry Tucker came on to replace Liam Enver-Marum.

An opening came Aylesbury's way just into the 65th minute when Ty Deacon's through ball down the right channel found Hogg, who ran towards the box before being denied by a good tackle by Mapley for a corner.

The Ducks made their first change in the 66th minute when Jamie Rudd came on to replace Lee Stobbs.

Then in the 68th minute, Aylesbury went 2-1 up when Deacon's ball over the top from a central position in Thame's half found Hercules on the left, who took a touch in his stride to leave him in a one on one with Hill before sending his low curling right foot shot from 15 yards into Hill's left hand corner. 2-1 Aylesbury

Thame made their second change just into the 69th minute when Harry Scott came on to replace Hackett.

Aylesbury went close in the 70th minute when Hercules' corner from the left was headed out to Jellis on the left, who fired his first time right foot volley from 25 yards only just over the bar.

There was a controversial moment in the 71st minute when Blake's cross from the right was caught by Davis with Thame's Dan West following in after Davis had caught the ball and pushing The Ducks keeper over. Davis got up before being pushed over a second time by West, who was only shown a yellow card by Wiltshire referee Rob Finn when it could and maybe should have been a red.

Aylesbury made their second change in the 80th minute when Ben Seaton came on to replace Hogg.

Then in the 81st minute, Aylesbury went 3-1 up when Seaton picked up a loose ball in a central position 10 yards outside the box and did a quick bit of footwork before back-heeling to the on-running Rudd outside the box. He took a touch to control and beat Lewis Thorne on his way to the byeline before crossing low to Deacon, whose first time left foot shot from 3 yards was owned by Mapley. Both players fell to the floor as the block was made but Deacon managed to hook his right foot shot under the advancing Hill into the middle of the net. 3-1 Aylesbury

The last chance of note came The Ducks' way with 34 seconds of normal time left when, from Hercules' low cross from the left, Rudd slid in at the far post but was unable to connect with the ball.

The final blast of referee Finn's whistle after 4 minutes 16 seconds of added time at the end brought an entertaining game to a close and confirmed not only Aylesbury's win but bragging rights over their local rivals.
