A week after the win at AFC Dunstable, just two changes to the starting line up, with Kian Henry replacing the injured Jake Bewley and Kajetan Halatyn coming in to lead the attack in place of the unavailable Kamil Zielinski. Will St Clair Burton returned to the match day squad on the substitutes bench.
A fast start saw a ball forward by Ben Stallard was cleared by James Towell, but his clearance was blocked by Tom Cove, who cut inside and shot into the side netting from 15 yards.
Langley came close in the 4th minute, a corner from Bradley Smith was cleared by Jack Wood to Jake Anthony on the edge of the penalty area, he turned away from the defence and fired in a shot that Jack Hopwood fielded comfortably at his near post. Anthony came close again 5 minutes later, meeting another Smith corner at the far post, but his effort cleared the crossbar.
The Ducks took the lead in the next attack; a cross-field ball by Liam Batchelor Morgan found Cove, who made a good run down the left beating Towell and getting into the penalty area, before pulling back to Sonny French, who sidefooted home from 10 yards to open the scoring. 1-0 Aylesbury
Midway through the half French passed the ball wide to Luqman Kassim, who beat two defenders and reached the edge of the penalty area before shooting; keeper Cian Moore made a smart save at his near post, but the ball rebounded to Ben Stallard, whose shot from 20 yards was deflected wide for a corner.
On 35 minutes a corner from the right was played to Towell, who clipped it into the penalty area; the ball was cleared to Charne Lemba on the edge of the area, who hit a powerful volley just over the crossbar.
From the next attack, Kassim, having a fine game, cut inside Judd Farrant and hit a powerful shot from 25 yards that just cleared the crossbar. It was end to end stuff at this stage, the next passage of play saw a clearance by Henry fall to Declan Phillips in the centre circle, who advanced unchallenged and shot from 25 yards, but Hopwood was happy to watch it sail wide of the target.
A second goal came in the 38th minute; a good ball forward by Liam Batchelor Morgan found Kassim on the right, he beat Farrant and played a slick one-two with Halatyn before firing past Moore from 20 yards for and early contender for ‘goal of the season’. 2-0 Aylesbury
In the 43rd minute, a good chance was created on the edge of the penalty area for Declan Phillips, but Haziz Kone made a great block to stop the goal bound shot.
On the cusp of half time, Langley had a good opportunity to get back into the game; a foul by Henry on Anthony 19 yards from goal saw Smith step up to take the free kick, but his effort was high over the crossbar.
Half-time: Aylesbury 2-0 Kings Langley
Into the second half and on 51 minutes, a cross-field pass from the right found Smith at the far post, but he dallied over his shot and saw it blocked. Two minutes later, Henry Burt collected the ball on halfway before passing to Rayan Clarke who took a speculative shot from 35 yards, which Hopwood was happy to watch pass wide of his goal.
A corner from Stallard in the 73rd minute was met by Henry with a powerful header from 15 yards, but his effort was cleared off the line, bouncing out to French who saw his shot blocked and cleared.
With 12 minutes remaining, Towell, now playing in a more advanced role, made good ground down the right and fired a dangerous cross into the 6-yard area, but none of his team mates were close enough to get a telling touch.
Four left on the clock and all 3 Ducks substitutes combine to almost add a third goal; Zeid Hannachi, on as a late replacement for French, won the ball on halfway. He played it square to fellow sub Andrijus Lapacinskas who saw a shot from 20 yards well saved by Moore; the ball falling to Will St Clair Burton, who reached the ball ahead of Moore and shot from a narrow angle, but saw his goal bound effort cleared off the line by Lemba.
On 89 minutes the determination of the Ducks defence to claim another clean sheet was demonstrated, when a ball through the centre saw a shot blocked by Wood before the follow up was cleared off the line by Batchelor Morgan; the ball was cleared and fell to Kone, who outpaced the defence but saw his shot miss the far post.
Two final chances for the profligate visitors saw first Smith pick up the ball on halfway, before firing a swerving shot from 35 yards which Hopwood watched sail past his post, then a cross from Towell inexplicably headed back towards the edge of the penalty area by Oluwatamilore Ogunnowo, when he had an opportunity to test Hopwood.
No further action saw the Ducks run out comfortable winners, and a 9th clean sheet of the season. Results elsewhere saw the Ducks rise back into the play off places, 4th in the league, just one point behind leaders Hadley. Next up is a trip to struggling North Leigh on Saturday; we hope to see as many of the Ducks faithful join us on the day.
