Two goals for Prescot Cables against Southport in last season’s Liverpool Senior Cup gave the Sandgrounders first-hand experience Steven’s scoring capabilities. The striker gained further local prominence with a hat-trick against Tranmere Rovers later in the competition, finishing the campaign with an excellent return of 19 goals for a struggling Prescot side. Lively with a good touch, Steven, 21, had been the subject of interest from Southport last March, before attracting attention from a number of Football League clubs.
